Answers to the questions people ask most about the app, Trail+, and your account. Still stuck? Email support@texiantrail.app.

The App

What does the Texian Trail app do?

It shows the Texas historical markers around you, opens each one to its full inscription, and gives one-tap directions in Apple Maps or Google Maps. When you reach a marker, you can check in. Your check-ins build a record of where you have been and earn badges. It is free on iPhone and Android.

Is it free?

Yes. The free app includes the map, every inscription, directions, badges, the Texas Revolution Trail tour, and 5 check-ins a day. You can browse as a guest with no account; a free account lets you check in and keep your badges.

Are the app's tours the same as the trails on this website?

No. The app's guided tours are their own list, built for driving in order and tracking your progress. The trails on this website are reading guides you can follow in any browser.

Trail+

What does Trail+ add, and what does it cost?

Trail+ adds unlimited daily check-ins, every curated guided tour, full-text search of more than 15,000 inscriptions, satellite and hybrid map views, offline downloads by county, a nearby radius filter, and a trail passport with detailed stats.

It costs $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year in the US. You buy it in the app, and Apple or Google bills it to your store account. See the full comparison.

How do I cancel Trail+?

Apple and Google handle the subscription, so you cancel it in your store account. Deleting the app or your Texian Trail account does not cancel it.

  • iPhone: open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose Texian Trail. Or open Apple subscriptions on the web.
  • Android: open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments and Subscriptions, then Subscriptions, and choose Texian Trail. Or open Google Play subscriptions on the web.

In the app, Profile has a Manage Subscription button that opens the same page. Trail+ stays on until the end of the period you paid for.

I bought Trail+ but the app does not show it.

Sign in with the same account you used before, then go to Profile and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure the phone is signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account that paid.

Check-Ins

How close do I need to be to check in?

Within about 300 feet (100 meters) of the marker. The app reads your location from GPS when you tap Check In, so allow location access for Texian Trail. If you are farther away, the app tells you about how far, so you can use Directions to get closer.

GPS can drift near tall buildings and under trees. If a check-in fails while you are standing at the marker, wait a few seconds for the location to settle and try again.

Is there a limit on check-ins?

Free accounts get 5 check-ins a day. Trail+ removes the limit.

Marker Information

Where does the marker information come from?

Marker titles, inscriptions, and locations come from the Texas Historical Commission's Texas Historic Sites Atlas. Texian Trail is an independent guide and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Commission. More on Sources and Credits.

A marker is wrong or missing. How do I report it?

The Atlas record is the source, so corrections go there. Open the marker's page on this site, follow the link to its Atlas record, and use the Atlas error report. Corrections show up here when we refresh from the Atlas. If a marker's location in the app is off, you can also email support@texiantrail.app.

Your Account

How do I reset my password?

Go to Reset Your Password, enter your email, and follow the link we send. You can also tap Forgot Password on the app's sign-in screen.

How do I delete my account?

On the web, go to Delete Your Account. In the app, go to Profile and tap Delete Account. Deleting the account does not cancel a Trail+ subscription, so cancel that first in your store settings.

How do I contact you?

Email support@texiantrail.app. Tell us what phone you use and, for a marker question, the marker's name and county.
